Introduction
Nothing OS 1.5 beta is based on the Android 13 operating system and brings with it some of its own unique tweaks, as well as all of the regular Android 13 features. The Nothing OS 1.5 is set to roll out in early 2023, but what can we expect? Here’s a review of what’s new.
The New Weather App
The main feature of Nothing OS 1.5 is the new custom-designed Nothing Weather app, which pulls data straight from the AccuWeather service. The UI is minimalist and has a dot matrix vibe in keeping with the rest of the Nothing phone aesthetic. When the app is opened up, users can see their current weather including the temperature, feel like temperature, UV index and any warnings. Scrolling further down reveals a prediction for the rest of the day and for the next few days. When an item is clicked, users are taken to the AccuWeather website for more info and (unfortunately) some ads. The light and dark themes can be changed from the system settings, as can the units used for temperature and wind speed. Locations can also be set up for alternate weather reports.

The Google Game Dashboard
The Google game dashboard is a new addition to Nothing OS 1.5. When a user is playing a game, they can bring this up by clicking the arrow. This gives access to shortcuts such as screenshots, recordings and streaming. There’s also an optimization option for supported games.
Volume Controls, Clipboard and Privacy Controls
Volume controls in Nothing OS 1.5 have been reconfigured to make them easier to use. There’s also a new live captioning tool to transcribe speech in real time, and a new clipboard pop-up affords users the ability to edit text before putting it somewhere else. Android 13 brings improved privacy controls, giving users the opportunity to choose whether or not to receive notifications when first opening an app. It should also be easier now to end apps running in the background through the notifications tab. The media widget has been enhanced too, with a prominent display and album artwork. Finally, favorite apps will load faster, with the phone able to efficiently manage the build-up of background processes.

Conclusion
Nothing OS 1.5 beta, based on Android 13, brings an array of useful and exciting new features for the Nothing phone. The brand new weather app is sleek and informative, and the Google game dashboard, volume controls, clipboard pop-up and enhanced privacy controls are all great additions. Those who are lucky enough to get their hands on the Nothing phone will enjoy a smooth and fast experience.
